EXPERIENCE


We are a small team of highly qualified and highly regarded speech pathologists with national and international experience. 
We are all 'Certified Practicing Speech Pathologists' and members of Speech Pathology Australia and have worked in both the public and private sector in hospitals, health clinics, private practices and government departments.
We are registered with Medicare. We are able to see Plan Managed and Self Managed NDIS clients.
We work in the following areas:
  • Early language development / late talkers
  • Preschool speech and language
  • Autism and developmental delay
  • Stuttering/fluency disorders
  • School age language including literacy
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems
  •  2nd opinions for speech sound disorders
  •  Velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI) and Cleft speech

WE CAN HELP


     Our team will help you:
  • identify specific issues with your child’s speech, language and communication skills and offer therapy as required
  • offer ideas and strategies to improve your child’s speech clarity
  • assist with children who are late to commence talking
  • assist with alternative communication strategies
  • provide individual therapy for stuttering and fluency issues 
  • assist with development of pre-reading and literacy skills
  • liaise with teaching staff to develop strategies to assist with your child’s learning
  •  Angie also offers second opinion speech assessments at the request of other speech pathologists/ parents, to assist with diagnosis and therapy suggestions
  •  Telehealth sessions are also available via Zoom for those out of area

WORKING TOGETHER


  • Assessments are conducted at an initial visit to determine your child’s communication strengths and weaknesses.
  • The assessment may involve observations during play, discussion with the family and other carers (e.g. teachers) as well as formal standardized testing. 
  • A report is provided with a plan and recommendations.
  • The plan for therapy (number and frequency of sessions) will be discussed with the family.
  • Home/ school practice activities are provided.
  •  We like to work closely with family and teachers/ childcare staff to ensure that your child receives support from his/ her full team!

Angie has over 20 years experience as a speech pathologist working in Australia & internationally. 
​
Within the public and private sector Angie has worked with children in Community Health Clinics and hospitals, private practices in Sydney as well as the department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care. She works part time in this practice as she spends the other part of the week working in the public sector at John Hunter Children's Hospital (JHCH) with both the inpatient feeding caseload as well as outpatients of the JHCH Cleft Palate Clinic.

Angie has many years of experience working with the John Hunter Children's Hospital Cleft Palate team and has a special interest in cleft speech, hypernasality and velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI). Angie also offers second opinions to other speech pathologists seeking assistance with managing their clients with complex speech sound disorders.

​Angie believes that experience counts. She aims to provide a happy, supportive and flexible approach so that families feel comfortable and welcome. ​

We are excited to have the lovely Sarah join Merewether Speech Pathology!

Sarah has worked as a speech pathologist since 2019 and has gained some wonderful experience both in Sydney and Newcastle working with children and adolescents in speech, language, fluency, voice, feeding as well as multi-modal communication (AAC). She completed her degree at the University of Newcastle with Honours and received the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship for Academic Excellence. 

Sarah enjoys working with families and schools to develop children's speech, language and literacy skills in order to achieve the best possible outcome for the child. She has a passion for giving children with complex communication needs a voice and working with alternative communication systems to develop their communication skills. Sarah uses a family-centred, evidence based approach to assist children to achieve their communication and literacy goals. 

​Sarah is working with Merewether Speech Pathology full time. She is caring and fun and is extremely approachable. She is a fabulous addition to the team.

\Merewether Speech Pathology is now located within 'The Nest Health Hub' rooms on the first floor of OTP House in Kotara.

There is 1-2 hour car parking available both in front and behind the building. 

Claiming

​If your child is eligible, you are able to claim our services through:
Medicare - through a 'Chronic disease management plan' - talk to your GP
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) - We can help you through the process of navigating the NDIS
Private health insurance -  bring along your private health insurance card and we can swipe it through the Hicaps machine  ​
